Ghylian Bell is the founder of the Urban Yoga Foundation, a non-profit organization that educates and empowers diverse communities to be proactive about issues affecting their health. Through yoga and related holistic approaches, UYF programs provide children, parents and educators with the tools needed to manage stress, develop mind-body awareness and health consciousness. The foundation uses yoga as a form of artistic and academic expression addressing health issues as well as attention and behavioral disorders.
Bell started the Asthanga yoga practice in 1995, and then went on specializing in children's yoga 5 years later. Currently she has her Integrated Science of Hatha Tantra and Ayurveda certification while embodying the holistic lifestyle. As a purveyor of fine hand-blended organic botanical blended teas, Bell supplies organic and fair trade tea to schools for tasting and workshops.
Ghylian Bell is Chair of The Passion Committee for The American Heart Association with a focus in prevention and health management. As an advocate holistic nutritionist Bell has lead presentations for The Ronald Perelman Heart Center and The American Association of Black Cardiologists helping in her foundations mission. Among her newest venture is The Foundation House a creative holistic healing arts center located in Harlem on Strivers Row. Bell is also currently working on a documentary about yoga in the public school system. Her outreach organization was mentioned in Time Out New York Kids "Best Yoga Classes in New York."
